A chef allergy card is a small document an allergic individual should have with them when they eat out at restaurants. I wish that I had personally carried one with me on various occasions to better communicate my allergies with the kitchen. I wonder if having presented this card to the waiter, who then would have shared it with the kitchen, would have prevented allergic reactions. The specific allergy information is not always properly relayed to the kitchen and back to the waiter. Specific written allergen information can help prevent a communication breakdown.
I am including examples both in English and Spanish. If the allergic individual is not fully conversant in Spanish, it is better to err on the side of caution and to have very detailed allergy information recorded. It is important to note that the concept "food allergy" varies from culture to culture. We carry cards both in English and in Spanish.

Una tarjeta con información personal sobre alergias a ciertos alimentos es un documento que una persona con alergias debería llevar consigo cuando va a comer afuera. Yo personalmente debería haber llevado una de estas tarjetas para poder haber explicado mejor mis alergias a ciertos alimentos tanto a los camareros como al cocinero del restaurante. Me pregunto si con tal tarjeta hubiera podido evitar reacciones alergias. Información sobre alergias a ciertos alimentos no es siempre bien comunicada o entendida por el personal del restaurante. Una de estas tarjetas con información específica sobre ciertas alergias puede ayudar a prevenir malentendidos.
