Teatime Today: Brothers' Day

With Thermomix, I weighed, milled and mixed this crustless egg bake using up the last of this week's farmers market veggies. I rinsed the Thermomix bowl and weighed and mixed the cake batter.  It's fun and easy to cook with Thermomix, and we eat really well too.  Little Brother has outgrown his egg allergy.  I occasionally make him eggs.  I have reasons to limit the amount of egg he eats.  When I do give him eggs, they are fresh from the farmers market.

So easy to pack egg bake in bento box for lunch

At home, best enjoyed with a salad composed fully of farmers market freshness.  Great with kraut too. Goat feta is from Blue Heron.  I love the vibration of having a real connection with what we eat.

Leftovers kept in fridge with fabric cover from Mighty Nest
So many of our favorite treats come from feastingonfruit.com.  Recipe here.  Thermomix makes it so much easier to make these treats by weighing, milling an mixing.
Boys decorate their Brothers' Day cake together

Ready to dig in

Reality is that Boys dose every afternoon as part as oral immunothearpy.  Big Brother has come very far over past 7 months, reaching his present daily dose of 1/16 teaspoon.  We have special measuring spoons for dosing. The better the teatime treat, the easier it is to dose. Boys are desensitizing together and this year's Brothers' Day treat highlights this journey together.

Tradition is to use their money to buy a gift together.  Thank you, Boys, for teaching me how to care for your sweet relationship.

Hands-On Houston Museum of Contemporary Craft (we love this place!) happened to be cardboard food.  So we made another chocolate cake this weekend to celebrate.

Teatime Today: watermelon lime juice

With Thermomix, I can turn veggies and fruit into juice or smoothies with true ease.  We had so much yellow watermelon this week, so mason jars of juice came outside to pool with us to combat the Houston heat.  While Boys put their swim suits on, I blended watermelon with fresh squeeze lime: 1 minute, speed 10.  I infuse with fresh herbs.  No complaining in the heat this way!

Little Brother is curious to give it a try

Back to red watermelon.  Thermomix can do most anything, this is just one of them.  And since Thermomix is always on your counter, and virtually self-cleans, you can make things one after the next. And you can make this juice on the way out the door.

Thermomix Caramelized Onions

Thermomix constantly stirs the onions while cooking.  Hands-free cooking :)

We will use to top sandwiches, tacos and salads all week.  It's so easy to eat more deliciously with Thermomix

A bowl of massaged kale and a bowl of caramelized onions.  I don't really care what else we serve with it.

Before making the carmamelized onions, I made the 5-minute rainbow salad.  I go from one thing to the next with Thermomix.  I just rinse the bowl and keep going.

The caramelized onions will be on the table as a regular topping

Love with hummus

I adapted the recipe from my favorite Thermomix cookbook: Quirky Cooking. I chose not to add in the Rapadura sugar because I like the onions without it.

What you need:
500 g brown onions, cut into eights, individual pieces separated
2 tbsp olive oil or ghee
1/4 tsp salt
1-2 tbsp balsamic vinegar

What to do:
Place all ingredients into mixing bowl and cook 10 min/Varoma/reverse blade/spoon

Scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl with spatula and cook again, 10 min/Varoma/reverse blade/spoon.

Transfer to a jar and store in fridge.  I use right away after making an then store an use all week.

This cookbook is a total must in my opinion.  I have learned so much from her over the years.
Made with local Balsamic vinegar.  This one is nice and thick.

Sesame Orange Chicken from US Cookidoo

In a recent Thermomix cooking expererience, we made the sesame orange chicken with rice.  This recipe is from the US Cookidoo.  This dish was a total hit.  We made the marinade, then the glaze and then the sauté all in the same bowl.  In between steps we steamed the rice.  I wish I had a picture of the glaze to share.  Would you like to make your own Chinese-style dishes?  Would you like to make fresh and healthy meals?  You will once you experience cooking with Thermomix. When I got home I put all the components in the dish washer to clear any worries of cross-contamination.  Having a second bowl is key too.

Our Thermomix Hummus

We enjoy with veggies and  gluten-free buckwheat crackers ordered from Vitacost

Even better topped with Thermomix carmelized onions

A favorite summer-time, salad-like preparation: a heaping amount of hummus topped with farmer market cucumbers, tomatoes and herbs. We then drizzle olive oil on top and sprinkle with more paprika.

Thermomix makes hummus in seconds.  You can make it with canned chickpeas.  In this case, I recommend Eden brand because the cans are BPA free, the beans are organic, and the beans are cooked with kombu.  Thermomix also will cook your garbanzo beans first and then you can proceed with making the hummus.  Either way, the guided digital cooking will walk you through how to make it step-by-step.

Would you like to make more of your own food with pure ease? Would you like to save time and money?  Would you like to be more creative in the kitchen?  Would you like to involve your family and children in the art of cooking?  Would you like to stop having to run to the store to pick up things you can do yourself? Would you like to have more fun cooking?  Would you like to have more variety on your table?  Thermomix gives you the choice to make your food according to your preferences.  For me, Thermomix feels like freedom.

Our hummus is made without tahini because of a sesame allergy.  My boys like their hummus with cumin, Spanish paprika and lots of lemon juice.  With Thermomix, I can easily incorporate our favorite flavors and the best quality ingredients.  I can also take the extra step of sprouting my chickpeas for better digestion.

Both Boys are presently doing Oral Immunotherapy.  Little Brother has moved from daily doses of milk baked in muffins to actual milk.  Big Brother is daily dosing tahini.  I am making hummus every few days right now because he likes to take his daily dose of tahini with our tahini-less hummus.

Teatime Today: coffee frappe

Today for tea time, Papi made us coffee frappes. I requested something icy.  I only occasionally drink coffee these days. Today was one of those days. It’s summer. It’s hot.  He added to TM bowl: 200 grams ice cubes and 200 grams frozen coffee/milk cubes, leftover coffee from the morning and a drop of maple syrup. He blended the mix for 45 seconds on speed 9 and then topped with some raw cacao powder.  After a moment of relaxing, rinsed the Thermomix bowl and made some hummus.

Seeing What Grows

We planted two varieties of cucumber from seed. Based on Boys' cucumber consumption, we are going to grow more cucumbers from now on.

We also planted a baby cucumber plant.  The Suyo long variety.  We liked planting the baby cucumber plant next to the sprouting seeds to see two ways of growing.

Simplifying with Thermomix

Today I chopped and mixed my falafel.  I rinsed out the bowl and continued on to make our favorite oatmeal breafast cookies.  I weighed and blened the batter in my Thermomomix.  How many times do I use my Thermomix every day?  I use it all the time. Even if I used it less, it would still be essential.

My Mother’s Day Meal: simple and fresh

Boys got me this beautiful artichoke flower at the market.  Fresh market berries and homemade Thermomix coconut milk with Mother's Day breakfast

Scrumptious Saturdays

So many possibilities.  Meals are based on fresh ingredients.  Thermomix helps turn all this into delicious, homemade dishes with ease. 5 minute rainbow salad and purple slaw this week for sure.

These cucs will last 2-3 days in our house.  Boys love cucumbers so much that "pepisi/pepino" was a first word for one of them.

Little Brother will have all these himself
Citrus mixed in with new seasonal finds

Citrus and crunchy cucs packed up for after ice hockey

Our Canadian Fluf organic bags go everywhere with us. They are so easy to wash.

A little coriander
One tsp cumin
Put all the ingredients in TM and blend until smooth. Spoon into mini muffin tins to make 24 falafel. Pour about half a table spoon of olive oil onto each falafel. Bake for 25 minutes at 375.

Rinse and make 5 min rainbow salad in Thermomix or any other salad
